Artist's Comments

A herd of Styracosaurus albertensis moving through a late Cretaceous forest, including both adults and juveniles. The alpha male of the herd is in the foreground.

This is a complete and very detailed scene, with river, rocks, and native plants from the time. Done with nothing fancier than a mechanical pencil and a sheet of printer paper.

It has also been published in Prehistoric Times (albeit not quite as large as seen here).

omg :omg: what an amazing study :wow: :w00t: can i ask how long did it take to complete such a gorgeous drawing?
:iconpaleo-king:
It took about a month! Though admittedly I wasn't working on it every day. Almost half of the time was spent on the river!

I love the background.

Impressive! I was really struck by the light filtering through the trees, even if it isn't really a big part of the picture!

The landscaape it´s incredibly great, by i don´t like the anatomy os these styracosaurus , i think the postures are a little bit irreal. However it´s a great artwork men . congratulations ;)
:iconpaleo-king:
Thanks for the critique; but the postures were well-researched. It was a bit harder to get it perfect on the ones in the distance; closer up, there's a slight bit of bowing in the elbows, as in rhinos. In fact most ceratopsian skeletons in museums are mounted in an outdated sprawling posture that does not agree with their narrow-gauge trackways.
